Latiri 3- The downfall of human kind

By Hermione Reoch-Brehaut, year 9, Grammar School

Off the beaten track, facing toward the old state building, lay the ruins of the Monarch library. Gwenyth Hazel traced the once splendid interior with the strange wistfulness that seemed to engulf the small town that she inhabited. After the immense budget cuts passed by the state, the library had been the first to fall. However, it hadn’t been taken over by the vagabonds that appeared to litter every street yet. Gwenyth often visited here, to overwhelm herself in nostalgia and distract her from the moaning, wailing, begging of the hungry. Poverty was everywhere nowadays but the computers didn’t care, all that mattered was the upkeep of Latiri 3, the nation’s biggest robot center, the downfall of humanity! Long ago, the robots took jobs with the bright ideal that this would aid humanity in more vital jobs . Gwyneth's mother had been an actress in her golden days, the reason that Gwyneth could even survive! Actresses hadn’t been replaced yet, but it was only a matter of time. The robots manned every street, keeping everyone in line, supplying the rich with the utopian comforts of which they’d always dreamed, servants, surplus food quantities, anything they desired! Gwyneth's family barely got by but at least she was educated, a dream for many. She visited the library often in hope of finding a good book, something long ago banned due to dwindling amounts of paper. Then one day they issued a warrant stating that books were poison for the brain with the intense feelings conjured by them, it was for humanity’s own good, anyone found with a book in their possession would be executed, but Gwenyth had been collecting books for a while, she murmured to herself " I can't wait to see their faces when they find my private library!"
