A lonely place

By Oliver Miller, year 7, Grammar School

One minute I was conscious, the next I wasn’t.

I don’t know what happened to me, or why I’m here. I guess someone just took me to this world of seclusion. This everlasting hall of silence. I don’t know why I was so scared. I had to be alone, right? Yet, my own echoing footsteps sounded like others oncoming ones. All I could see was a long sheet of grey, slowly transitioning into white. Nothing could get more spine chilling than this remote, abandoned auditorium. I guessed the only thing I could do was walk forward, further on into this traumatic room. On and on I went, still seeing nothing, occasionally seeing hallucinations in the dark shadows of the hall.

I eventually felt I was going mad, rather wanting to have a date with the devil than spending one more second in this place. In the end, I just curled up into a ball, wanting to die peacefully and on my own terms, rather than battle on into the shadows of this place. Even if someone eventually found me in this horrifying hallway. Just as I was about to fall asleep, surely to the end of my insignificant life, a whispering voice came drifting out the shadows. Barely audible, I tried to stop breathing, trying to be able to hear it, but I couldn’t. And then, as though by magic, fog, so thick you could cut it with a knife, engulfed me. I was never heard from again. Until now...
